Green Knob Trail Facts

  • Type --- Loop
  • Distance --- 2.4 miles
  • Hiking Time --- 2.5 hours
  • Rating --- Easy to Moderate

  •    Green Knob Trail is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway a few miles south of Blowing Rock, near Julian Price Park. The trailhead begins at the Simms Creek Pond overlook. If you only get to this area once, and only have time for a short hike, DON'T MISS THIS HIKE! Green Knob Trail is without a doubt my favorite short hike. This hike offers every landscape you could imagine, from the beauty of Simms Creek, to the rolling hills of the adjacent pastures. This hike is a little more strenuous than the Price Lake Loop, moderate ups-and-downs, and a minor creek crossing, but offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, as well as the moist forest environment found streamside. Take your time, pick some blackberries while on Green Knob, take a lunch and maybe a good book. This is one great hike!

The purpose of this site is to share some photos, experiences and fun encountered while hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding areas. I have found hiking in general to be one of the most exciting ways to spend a couple of hours, or a few days.
Calling home the piedmont of North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Mountains create a magical place, close enough to be convienent, yet far enough away to prevent familiarity. I have been visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains regularly my entire life, and have never ceased discovering new adventures. The trick is not aways finding new places, but more often discovering new aspects of previously visited areas. Sometimes a change in weather can shed new light on familiar ground!
Thanks for taking the time to visit and enjoy the scenery, now get away from that computer and head for the hills!
